My Digital Art Exhibit - March 2017

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 18, 2017, 3:03 PM

I've had an art show hanging throughout March at a local, beachside coffeehouse/gallery. This is my first solo display ever, and I am proud that I was able to make it happen.

Sorry that I have waited this long to share here on DA, and thanks to those who supported the announcement on Facebook & Instagram.

A valuable learning experience, to manifest these virtual works into the physical world and get active in the local art scene. It reaches everything from framing and hanging the art to swiping debit cards.  I actually had a second large piece, but had to omit due to nudity :o In retrospect, I would remove the smaller items or group them elsewhere.

This is located in a beachfront community where I grew up. (I've moved away from the beach) Artwork in this area is traditionally beach themed with palm trees and sunsets and seagulls. If it's not painting on canvas (or maybe driftwood), then it's not art. Regardless, I am confident in my showing because the work is modern and valid and I KNOW this audience needs to be exposed to new styles.

I am one of the only digital fine artists in the entire city. (I have found one other.) This is both a frightening and also inspiring situation. There is a sense of solitude attached, as I reach out to painters and sculptors and photogs to connect. Digital fine art is alien, even to these established and experienced artists. Yet, why not fill this niche?

This gallery allows artist to setup inside for the community artwalk that is outside on the street. Here is my little table of oddities, and I can point people to my exhibit as well. I sold enough at the first event to cover the cost of my exhibit. No luck on the second, but lots of positive comments and compliments. I often meet other artists who are knowledgeable about art and have good discussions.

I find community artwalks are a bit like going to the zoo. People just want to walk and gawk and point at the exotic things, but not take them home. =\

Thanks for watching.
...until the next one!
